The Life of Joseph F Bennett Jr

Joseph F. Bennett, Jr., 84, of Kutztown, died on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017 in Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading, where he was a patient for one month. He was the loving husband of Jane D. (Schaeffer) Bennett, whom he married on January 31, 1980.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Joseph was a son of the late Joseph F., Sr., and Margaret (Johnson) Bennett. Joe was a member of Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Kutztown. He attended and graduated high school in Brooklyn, NY. Mr. Bennett honorably and faithfully served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He spent his career in the trucking industry, having been the owner and operator of M & P Transportation in New York for many years, and most recently, Commercial Truck and Trailer Sales and Service, Maxatawny, for seven years, until his retirement. Joe was a member of Knights of Columbus, Brooklyn, NY., Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion, Topton, Kutztown Lions Club, Kutztown Fire Company and a former business member of the Northeast Berks Chamber of Commerce, Kutztown. Joe had a love for flying and even attained his private pilot's license. He also enjoyed boating and reading.

In addition to his Wife of 37 years, Jane, Joseph is survived by his Children, Barbara C. (Bennett), wife of Russell R. Schlegel, Woodruff, SC, Joseph F. Bennett, III, Kutztown, John J., Sr., husband of Laura L. (Moynihan) Bennett, Cressona, Thomas F., husband of Sharon R. (Carl) Bennett, Allentown, and Mark W., husband of Elizabeth M. (Powell) Bennett, Tawas, MI.; 5 Grandchildren, Christine Potts, Chad Bennett, John Bennett, Jr., Christopher Bennett and Matthew Bennett; and 3 Great Grandchildren, Richard and Gage Mengel and Matthew Potts. Joseph was predeceased by his Parents, Daughter, Ann F. Bennett, on November 13, 2012, and a Sister, Josephine Bennett in infancy.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 11:00 AM from Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 14833 Kutztown Road, Kutztown, with Reverend Monsignor Walter T. Scheaffer, as Celebrant. Relatives and friends may call on Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:45 AM in the church. Burial will be private in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

The family requests contributions be made in Joseph's memory to St Mary's R.C. Church, 14833 Kutztown Road, Kutztown, PA  19530. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
