The Life of Mavis Broussard

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 11:00 AM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Mavis B. Broussard, 86, who died on Monday, April 10, 2017 at Abbeville General Hospital.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pastor Andrew Sutton, of First United Methodist Church, will officiate the services.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Doreen Bigelow and her husband, Mark and Mavis M. Benton and her husband, Omar Chamaa; two sons, Roy J. Broussard, Jr. and William Benton; seven grandchildren, Melanie Leger Simon, Kristen B. Ferguson, Christopher Bigelow, Omar S. Chamaa, Jr., Nadra Amanda Chamaa Matar, Sammi K. Chamaa, and William S. Benton; three great grandchildren, Lucas Simon, Layla H. Matar and Malik J. Matar.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Roy J. Broussard, Sr.; her parents, Maurice and Amanda Huval Benton; her siblings; and one child, Bonnie Broussard.

Mavis Benton Broussard was a native and lifelong resident of Lafayette, Louisiana. She volunteered for many years with First United Methodist Youth Group and as a Rape counselor for the local Crisis Center. Mrs. Broussard never met a stranger and spent her time volunteering and making care packages for the less fortunate. She had a very loving heart and always put others first. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lafayette for many years. Mrs. Broussard was a loving mother, grandmother and friend, and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
