The Life of William J Boyer Jr

William J. Boyer, Jr., 87, formerly of Greenwich Township, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017 in Laurel Center Genesis Health Care, Hamburg, where he was a resident for three years. He was the widower of Dorothea M. (Kunkel) Boyer, who died on October 20, 2016. Prior to Dorothea’s passing, the couple was married 66 years.

Born in Virginville, William was a son of the late William J., Sr., and Esther E. (Merkel) Boyer. As a devoted Christian, William and his late wife, Dorothea, served on and volunteered with many church committees and events over the past 50 years. Currently, he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kutztown, where he helped with the church newsletters and attended Bible study. He was also a former Sunday school teacher, Council and Property committee member at his former church, Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Kutztown (Grimville). William was a 1947 graduate of Kutztown Area High School, and was a United States Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was employed as a manager and meat cutter by Acme Markets, at their former Hamburg location, for 35 years, until his retirement in 1991. After his retirement, William, who always enjoyed woodworking, made wooden crafts with his wife and sold them at area craft shows, for ten years. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren hunting, fishing and camping.

William is survived by two Sons, D. Keith, husband of Manette L. (Geist) Boyer, Virginville; Michael L., husband of Barbara J. (Allgyer) Boyer, Kutztown; two Daughters, Debra A. (Boyer), wife of James E. Kohler, Hamburg; and Lorene F. (Boyer), wife of Randall J. Heffner, Lenhartsville. Other survivors include a Sister, Ellen E. (Boyer) Hill, a resident at The Lutheran Home at Topton; Sister-in-law, Jane (Conrad) Boyer, Lyon Station, 12 Grandchildren: Lisa Boyer, Danette (Boyer) Seidel, Laura Boyer, Katelyn Boyer, Brett (Boyer) Rocha, Jonathan Boyer, Heather (Boyer) Kline, Melissa (Kohler) Horvath, Brad Kohler, Scott Kohler, Douglas Heffner and Steven Heffner; 21 Great Grandchildren; and a Great-Grandchild due in July. In addition to his Wife and Parents, William was predeceased by a Brother, Allen A. Boye.

A memorial service to celebrate William’s life will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 4:00 PM from Trinity Lutheran Church, 357 West Main Street, Kutztown, with the Reverend Keith K. Rohrbach, officiating. Relatives and friends may call on Saturday from 2:30 to 4:00 PM in the church. Inurnment will be private in New Bethel Zion Cemetery, Kutztown (Grimville).

The family requests that contributions be made in William’s memory to Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 357 West Main Street, Kutztown, PA 19530. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
