The Life of Cleveland Samuel Banquer

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Catholic Church for Cleveland Samuel Banquer, age 92, who died Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Interment will be in the Holy Mary, Mother of God Cemetery.

The Reverend Harold Trahan, Pastor, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lafayette, LA will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the services. Con Celebrant will be Reverend William Blanda, St. Peter Catholic Church, New Iberia, LA.

Survivors include his four sons, Cleve S. Banquer and his wife, Yvonne of Baton Rouge, Karl P. Banquer and his wife, Pauline of Baton Rouge, Mark R. Banquer and his wife, Libby of Breaux Bridge, Brett P. Banquer and his wife, Betty of Lafayette; one daughter, Ann Banquer Lagneaux and her husband, Leon of DeRidder; eleven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; one brother, Israel “Tookie” Banquer and his wife, Cleo of Marrero; one brother-in-law, Carl Hunter and his wife, Thelma of Marrero; and one sister-in-law, Debra Hunter Savoie and her husband, Mark of Westwego.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Audrey Hunter Banquer; parents, Samuel Frank and Mae Thibodeaux Banquer and one sister, Earlene Banquer Broussard.

Born on October 10, 1924. Cleveland, as a young man served his country in the United States Marine Corp and was a veteran of the Pacific theater of WW II.

Cleveland spent his entire working career in the oil and gas exploration field. In 1962 he and his young family moved over seas as he took advantage of international opportunities in his field of work. In 1966 he and his family returned to the US and settled in Lafayette, La. In the early 70’s he and his wife, Audrey resumed his foreign career and worked over the next 2 ½ decades in many different parts of the world. Later, during partial and then full retirement he and Audrey traveled extensively all over the United States and Canada.

Over his lifetime Cleveland touched many lives in many lands as he was always known for his openness and kindness. To his immediate and extended family, he was our beloved patriarch, a man with gusto and a passion for life. He will be deeply missed and always remembered.

A Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday at 6:30 PM in the Martin & Castille Funeral Home.

The Banquer Family requests that visiting hours be observed Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of the service.

Pallbearers will be Paul Banquer, Garrett Banquer, Brian Banquer, Adam Lagneaux, Matthew Broussard and Leon Lagneaux.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Lucas Banquer, Major Jason Banquer, USAF and Tabor Banquer.
