The Life of John Newton Martin

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, April 6, 2017 in the Delhomme Funeral Home Chapel of the Flowers for Mr. John Newton Martin, 82, who passed away on the morning of April 2, 2017.
Rev. Mike Walker, Pastor of The Bayou Church will conduct the funeral service.
Burial will take place in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery.
Mr. Martin, a longtime resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late James Floyd Martin and the former Annie Helen Falkenbury.
John was a native of Cotulla, Texas. In 1954 due to a difference of opinion with the Lasalle County Game Wardens he decided to move to Louisiana. While living in New Orleans, he met and married his wife of 62 years. John was a pioneer in the oil industry, which brought him to Lafayette in 1970. One of his many accomplishments was to erect the first offshore rig in Mexico for Pemex. Later, he owned and operated Martin Well Service, Inc., Martin Services International, Inc. and Martin Hotline Systems, Inc., which he later sold to Baker Oil Tools.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Sampey Martin; children, Dottie Gautreaux and husband Mark of Conroe, TX, Ted Martin of New Columbia, PA, Maryann Boudreaux and husband Todd of Lafayette; 8 grandchildren, Courtney Martin of Scott, Joshua Martin and wife Andrea Martin of Lafayette, Jason Gautreaux of Conroe, TX, Samantha Martin of Austin, TX, Annie Martin of Wellsboro, PA, Emily Martin of Wellsboro, PA, Noah John Boudreaux of Lafayette, and Andrew Martin Boudreaux of Lafayette; and one great grandchild, Jacques Martin of Lafayette.
As the youngest and last in his family, he was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Mary "Edith" Martin, James Owen Martin, Joe Floyd Martin, Lonnie Sturgess Martin, and Gladys Helen Martin.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 4:00PM to 9:00PM. Visiting hours will continue on Thursday from 8:00AM until the time of service.
Pallbearers will be Noah John Boudreaux, Andrew Martin Boudreaux, Jason Gautreaux, Joshua Martin, Mark Gautreaux, Todd Boudreaux, Joe Martin and Ted Martin.
The family would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. John Mickey and Lisa Peyton, Concepts of Care Home Health, and the LGMC 7th floor for the loving care that each gave John in his time of need.
