Born in New Orleans, LA and a resident of Lafayette for most of her life, Joan P. Lavigne was a Parishioner of Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. She married and loved her high school sweetheart Jack for 55 years. Together they showed us what love really was. A skilled educator for many years she was often called ‘my favorite teacher’ by many third graders. As a Mom, Grandmother, and Gigi she was unsurpassed. Her genuine love will warm our hearts forever. She made others feel important and lived by telling people that they were great at doing something rather than just thinking so. A class act, she was beautiful inside and out. We will cherish the joy she had for life and thank her for her lessons and unwavering love. She delighted in ‘free car washes from Heaven’ and said there was really no reason for entertainment when we had such incredible sunsets to watch every evening. We will miss her terribly but know she will now watch over us and guide us as we try to carry on her legacy of love.

The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of support from many friends, the pastoral team and ICU staff at LGMC, Dr. Stephen Salopek, Jr., and additionally for the commitment of Dr. Gus Ingraldi who surpassed anything we have ever witnessed.

Pallbearers will be Zachary McNeal, Terrell McNeal, Aaron Nomey, Matthew Sonnier, Robert Becker and Mark Becker.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Kaleb Sonnier, Andrew Sonnier and Eli Sonnier.
