The Life of Tom Joseph Stoma Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016, at a 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in Martin & Castille''s La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette, for Tom J. Stoma, Jr., 88, who died peacefully at 4:00 AM on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 with family at his side.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Reverend William Schambough, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milton, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be John O''Donnell and Liz Stoma. Giftbearers will be Annie Stoma and Maria Cortez.

Survivors include his niece, Angela Cortez and her husband, Page; his nephew, Phil Stoma, Jr. and his wife, Laura; a sister in law, Liz Stoma; two great nieces, Annie Stoma and Maria Cortez; and three great nephews, Christopher Stoma, Andrew Stoma, and Matthew Cortez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom Stoma, Sr. and Cokab LaHood Stoma; and his brother, Phil Stoma, Sr.

A resident of Lafayette for over 80 years, Mr. Stoma served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was past president of the Lafayette Bowling Association and the State Bowling Association, a member of the State Bowling Hall of Fame, a member of the Lafayette City Hall of Fame, and was the National Bowling Congress Director for many years. Earlier in his career, Mr. Stoma worked in the Oil and Gas industry as an Independent Landman. He then worked for Gaidry''s Men''s Wear in the Oil Center for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed bowling and playing golf. Mr. Stoma had a wonderful extended family of friends that he spent much of his time with, many while bowling at Lafayette Lanes and later on playing golf at the Wetlands. His family will remember him most for his strong will, relentless perseverance, and his newspaper wrapped gifts signed "UT".

Pallbearers will be Phil Stoma, Jr., Andrew Stoma, Christopher Stoma, Page Cortez, Matthew Cortez, and LaHood LaHood.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s SOUTHSIDE location on Thursday from 9:30 AM until time of service.

The Stoma family wishes to thank Hospice of Acadiana, the 7th floor staff at Lafayette General, the staff at St. Martin Hospital, Dr. Gus Ingraldi, Patsy Miller and Donna Patin for the compassionate care given to Tom during his time of need.
