Services will be conducted by Rev. Steven C. Leblanc.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Fred Girouard, Sr. was born on November 22, 1929, in Broussard, Louisiana to Peter and Anita Girouard. Fred served in the U.S. Army during WWII and eventually returned to Lafayette, where he married the love of his life, Clara Green Girouard. They were married for 55 years and through this union God blessed them with one son Fred Girouard Jr. and one stepson, Ralph Keith Broussard.

Loving known as “Freddy” and “Pop,” he had a passion for people and was known by many as the consummate salesman. He repeatedly earned membership in the “Top Sales Club” at Sears, where he worked as a salesman for twenty-five years; and was also the Maitre D’ of Banquets at Evangeline Downs Casino and Racetrack for forty-five years. Freddy’s attention to detail was legendary and he took great pride in ensuring that every patron encountered the best service imaginable.

An avid fan of horse racing, many patrons consistently turned to Freddy seeking an “insiders” perspective on the sport. To know him was to know his passion for performance cars, horse racing, bowling and his family. He has left us with a legacy of love by his example of lifelong selfless giving to his family and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife, Clara Green Girouard; two sons Fred Girouard Jr. (Michelle) and Ralph Keith Broussard (Constance); six grandchildren, Brian Broussard (Berryl), Kelly Johnson (Dedrick), Bianca Mason, Arielle Mason, Michael Boutte Jr. and Ryan Boutte; three great-grandchildren, Brian Broussard Jr., Brennan Broussard, and Karter Johnson; and one sister, Theresa Harzing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Anita Bossett Girouard, two brothers, and eight sisters.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Heart of Hospice, especially Pop’s nurse, Ginette Pommier for the care and comfort provided during his stay at home.

The family would also like to extend special thanks to his faithfully devoted caregivers’ Claudette Simon, Shannon Harrison, Florence Comeaux and Alma Thibeaux for the excellent care they provided. The family appreciates everything they did for him.

Mourning his passing are many relatives and friends. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held Saturday October 29, 2016 at St. Pius X Catholic Church from 8 am until time of service.

A rosary will be recited on Saturday at 10:30 am.
