The Life of Tommy Romain Navarre
Tommy was born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana. He was born on December 14th, 1960 and passed away in Austin, Texas on October 14th, 2016.
He graduated from Northside High School in 1978 where he was the class president and Student of the Year his senior year. He attended the University of Southern Louisiana, graduating with honors in 1982 with a degree in General Studies.
During the pursuit of his education, he participated in the "Up With People" organization, traveling around the world sharing his many talents. He was a great performer, singer, actor, and storyteller. He traveled to Peru, Columbia, Canada and throughout the United States with performances including the Super Bowl in 1981 and the World''s Fair in 1982 in Knoxville, TN. The people he shared this experience with remained some of his dearest friends.
He moved to Austin in 1983 to pursue a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin. He received his MBA in 1985 and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1986.
During this time he met the love of his life, James Mauseth, while attending a Portuguese class at the University of Texas at Austin in 1983. They became life partners, best friends and soul mates. On September 27th, 2013 they were married in New York City with a few of their closest friends in attendance.
In September 1993, Tommy and Jim purchased a neglected historic home in the Castle Hill area of Austin that was 114 years old and in ill repair. Through their passion and commitment, they resotred the house to its original condition, and in 1994, it became their home. During this incredible restoration, Tommy spent many, many, many hours in the freezing cold stripping countless layers of paint from the original front door. Tommy and Jim''s home is now referred to as the Old Ziller House. In 2001, it was proclaimed a City of Austin Landmark, became a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Tommy and Jim received the Preservation Award from Austin Heritage Society in 1994. Tommy later served as President of this same organization from 2001-02. When Tommy took on a project he was tenacious and dedicated to its completion. We were all enriched by the many things he did in the community and in our lives.
His love of language compelled him to attend summer classes at the Universite Sainte-Anne, in Pointe-de-l''Eglise, Nova Scotia, Canada, for French Immersion classes in 2011 and 2012. He was asked to return as an animateur, teaching assistant for the 2013 class.
Tommy''s passion for language and travel led him and Jim on many adventures. They especially loved annual bike tours with friends, exploring the culture, cuisine, and countryside in many parts of the world. Among their fondest trips were Paris to Frankfurt in 2000, Tuscany and Provence in 2001, Scotland in 2003, and Prague in 2016. During this time they had amazing adventures and met life-long friends. Tommy and Jim especially loved spending time with David West and Will Klemm in Taos, New Mexico celebrating Christmas holidays.
Tommy began his professional career at Touche Ross Company in 1987-93 he joined KMW, a communications company. In 1993 he began his career with Whole Foods Market in the accounting department and had a fantastic 20-year career, leading teams in IT, Purchasing and Competitive Analytics. He was honored by Whole Foods Market with Global All Star status manyt times throughout his career. He took a brief hiatus from Whole Foods Market in 1999 to travel and procure European antiques for Whit Hanks Antiques. He also traveled to Morocco in 2015 with the Whole Planet Foundation, volunteering his time to build irrigation canals. Amazing man.
He was a man whose spirit reflected the positive view he had of life, his love for his husband, friends and the deep appreciation of his family. He loved music, language, art, food, his home - basically he loved life and all that the world had to offer.
He is survived by the love of his life and husband of 33 years, James David Mauseth, and his loving family of sisters and brothers, Lucy Boudreaux Webre, Randal Keith Navarre, Emile Navarre, Michael Anthony (Tony) Navarre, Carbart Wade Navarre II, Tammy Cordelia Navarre and Brady Odilon Navarre. He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents Odilon and Elta Meaux, his paternal grandparents Romain and Odile Navarre and Alton Zaunbrecher, and his parents Carbart Wade Navarre and Codrey Meaux Navarre. He cherished his relationships with his nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Tommy''s life will be celebrated at a service in Lafayette, LA with a viewing held on Sunday, October 16 from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Martin & Castille Funeral Home, DOWNTOWN, 330 St. Landry Street, Lafayette, LA 70506 and on Monday, October 17 at 8:00 AM until time of service.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 17, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home, with a burial to follow at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery, 2111 W. Pinhook Rd., Lafayette, LA.
Pallbearers for the service will be Keith Navarre, Emile Navarre, Tony Navarre, Wade Navarre II, Brady Navarre, Will Klemm & David West.
