The Life of Gloria Jane Donohoe
Private Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery for Gloria Jane Donohoe, 86, who passed away on September 25, 2016.
Reverend Luther Burney will conduct the funeral services. Music performed by Ramona Carmichael.
Mrs. Donohoe, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Houston Gates and the former Zelma Mills.
Mrs. Donohoe earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, LA in August of 1959 and a Master of Education in Music at The University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1968. She taught public school music from 1950 until June of 1981. She taught piano in her home until her retirement in 1997. Memberships in Academic Organizations include Sigma Alpha Iota, Delta Kappa Gamma Society and Phi Kappa Phi, American College of Musicians, Louisiana Teachers Music Association, and Music Teacher National Association.
Mrs. Donohoe was an active member of Grace Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder, deacon and was the director of the handbell choir. She was also active in the Salvation Army Women''s Auxiliary, on the board of the Friends of the Lafayette Public Library and the P.E.O Chapter AT.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Lawrence E. Donohoe, Jr.; one son, Timothy Lawrence Donohoe and his wife, Marcia; two grandchildren, Patrick and Meaghan Donohoe and two great grandchildren, Austin Espisito and Mallory Donohoe, all of Waveland, MS and one sister in law, Mrs. Neva D. Erkins also of Winnfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Michael H. Donohoe.
A Celebration of Life reception will be held at 11:30 am on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Lafayette Petroleum Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to St. Jude Children''s Hospital or to The Salvation Army, 212 6th St., Lafayette, LA 70501.
Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA is in charge of funeral arrangements.
