The Life of Norma Guidry

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers in Lafayette for Norma D. Guidry, 93, who passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home surrounded by family members. Reverend Gary Schexnayder, Pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church will serve as Celebrant with burial to follow at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Recitation of the Rosary was held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 6:30 PM with Deacon Art Bakeler.

Norma, born in Mire, LA and a resident of Lafayette until the time she entered the nursing home. She was the daughter of the late Alexander Domingue and the former Edmae Pichoff. She was a graduate of Rayne High School. After her marriage to Filton J. Guidry, they moved to Lafayette, LA. She was active in the Home Demonstration Club and she and Filton traveled and camped quite extensively. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling and visiting. Her favorite thing was cooking for the family and being with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children; Diane Smith (Gerald) of Church Point, Cynthia Vincent (Ted) of Broussard, William "Bill" Guidry (Michelle) of Denham Springs; her daughter-in-law, Mynan Guidry of Baton Rouge; her grandchildren, Chad Guidry, Jimmy Guidry (Jessica), Judge David Smith (Alissa), Edward Smith (Kimberly), Stephanie Hargroder (Shane), Allison Boutte (Kevin), Sean Vincent, Christopher Guidry (Andrea), Ashlee Blanchard (Brody); her great-grandchildren Caleb Guidry, Joseph, Noah and Piper Guidry, Meredith, Gabriel, Margaret, Catherine, and Caroline Smith, Konner and Kaylen Smith, Macyn Bertrand, Levi, Kori and Jackson Hargroder, Alana and Britany Decou, Londynn Blanchard and Joseph Guidry. Also to cherish her memory, Meghan and Carlos Flores, Katherine and Jordan Gunther and Tripp Heck.

She was preceded in death by her parents and foster parents, her husband of 64 years Filton J. Guidry, their son Berlin J. Guidry.

The family would like to thank the Sisters and the Staff of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home for making Norma''s stay there like home. A special thanks to the sitters Laquisha "Gertrude" Angelle, Rochelle "Lil Bit" Ben and Katoria Andrus. We also would like to thank Dr. Micheal Montgomery for the excellent care given.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
