The Life of Dr. Gordon Joseph Mills Jr.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00PM on Monday, September 19, 2016 in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Gordon “Tookie” Joseph Mills, Jr., age 86, of Lafayette who died peacefully in his sleep on September 12, 2016.
Tookie was born in Arnaudville Louisiana on February 10, 1930 to Gordon J. Mills Sr. and Birdie Elaine Gully. He graduated high school from Arnaudville High. He received his bachelor’s degree from ULL (SLI) and his DDS (Dental) degree from Loyola University. Gordon married Carolyn Ann Logan in 1963 in Pass Christian MS. He was a loving father of four and grandfather of two grandsons.
He served in the Air Force as a 1st Lieutenant and was a veteran of the Korean War. After he finished his time in the service, he went back to school for his Dental Degree. He served as a Dentist in Lafayette for 40 years, retiring in 1999. Tookie was an avid salt water fisherman and a fabulous cook. He served as a member of the ADA, LDA, Acadiana Dental Association - 3rd District West President, and a member of the Louisiana Board of Dental Examiners.
He is survived by three children, Gordon (Cherie) Mills III, Gabriella Mills, and Ann (Don) Icard; two grandsons, Joseph and Colin and his sister, Alice Mills of the Order of the Sacred Heart.
He is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn; parents, Gordon Sr. and Birdie Gully and his daughter, Catherine.
The family request visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home on Monday, September 19, 2016 from 11:00AM until time of service.
