The Life of Arlene Gayle Squyres
Funeral Services will be held at 9:00am on Monday, August 15, 2016 in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Arlene "Gayle" (Shaw) Squyres, age 83, of Lafayette who died on Thursday, August 11, 2016 following a brief illness.
Gayle was born in Maiden, North Carolina on December 5, 1932 to Carl Andrew Shaw and Ada Mae Bynum. She was a graduate of Maiden High School.
Gayle married Joseph Scott "Scotty" Squyres on January 13, 1951 in South Carolina. Gayle was a loving wife of 53 years, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by son Byron and wife Mary (Falcon) Squyres, son Stephen and wife Marilyn (Dixson) Squyres, son Walter Squyres and daughter, Debra Squyres Breaux. Gayle had 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, who brought much joy to her life. She enjoyed playing bingo and loved cooking special treats for her many friends, and especially for her doctors.
Her smile and bright spirit will be missed by all.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Scotty, her parents, brothers Ralph, William and Glen Shaw, and her sisters Mary Shaw Kenner and Margarette Shaw.
The family requests visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home on Sunday, August 14, 2016 from 3:00pm to 9pm and Monday, August 15, 2016 from 8:00am until time of service.
Burial will be at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery in Lafayette.
