The Life of Irvin Lee Gallaspy

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at a 3:00 PM Service in Grace Presbyterian Church, 518 Roselawn Boulevard, Lafayette, Louisiana for Irvin Lee Gallaspy, 84, who died on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at his residence in Lafayette surrounded by his family. Interment services for family and friends will be held at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. The Reverend Wilmer MacNair will officiate the service.

Mr. Gallaspy was a native of Wichita, Kansas, born on March 23, 1932. His family, later that year, moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where he grew to adulthood. He was the son of Lottie C. Gallaspy and George L. Gallaspy.

Mr. Gallaspy was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma where he earned both a B. S. and M. S. in Geology. Upon graduation, from the University of Oklahoma Graduate School, he became a Louisiana resident and practiced his profession for more than 45 years in Lafayette.

He was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Lafayette Geological Society and the Society of Professional Earth Scientists. Additionally, He was proud of his Masonic affiliations where he was a member of M. E. Girard and Hope Lodge and the local York Rite Bodies for many years. He was a charter member of the Habibi Shrine Temple in Lake Charles.

Mr. Gallaspy was a lifetime Presbyterian, serving as an elder for many years at Grace Presbyterian Church. In 1980, he was asked to assist in the establishment of a new Presbyterian Church. He chaired the steering committee, that resulted in the creation of Trinity Presbyterian Church, which currently serves the south side of Lafayette. He was a charter member and remained active in church affairs until his death.

Mr. Gallaspy served in the U. S. Army as an ordnance officer during the last stages of the U. S. Army of occupation in Germany.

Survivors are one daughter, Lynn Gallaspy Miller, of Lafayette Louisiana, One Son, Alan C. Gallaspy of Las Vegas, Nevada, a sister, Myralin G. Whitaker of Sausalito, California, two brothers, George D. Gallaspy and William C. Gallaspy, both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Will, Grace and Allison Gallaspy and Brian and Michael Gallaspy; two great-grandchildren, Aiden Blonsley Gallaspy, Freya Gallaspy; and two daughters-in-law, Karen Gallaspy and Bonnie Pillaro.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Jane Simpson Gallaspy; his oldest son, Lee A. Gallaspy; and his parents, Lottie C. and George Leroy Gallaspy.

Visitation will be held at Martin & Castille’s DOWNTOWN location on Monday, June 13, 2016 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM

The family would like to give special thanks to caregivers, Matisha Wilson and Mitchell McWilliams for their kindness, compassion and gentle care given to Mr. Gallaspy during his time of need. The family would like to thank Jeffrey Caruthers.
