The Life of Allen David Dugas

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lafayette for Allen David Dugas, age 75, who died peacefully at his home on the morning of Monday, June 6, 2016 with his loving family by his side. He had a long battle with multiple health issues but never gave up hope or faith.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Reverend Steve LeBlanc, Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Steve Higgins and Diane Menard Gossen. Giftbearers will be Jeanne-Claire Comeaux, Eva Dugas and Rafaele Tammariello. Eulogist will be Morgan Diana Dugas. Kevin Martin, organist and soloists, Karen Melancon and Camille Sahuc will sing for the services, "Here I Am, Lord", "On Eagle''s Wings", "Ave Maria", "Our Father" and "Be Not Afraid".

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Menard Dugas; his son, David Dean Dugas and his wife, Mari Dugas; a daughter, Lisa Dugas Comeaux and her husband, Mark C.Comeaux, daughter, Leslie Dugas Tammariello and her husband, Mark R. Tammariello and son, Charles Anthony Dugas and his wife, Jill Howell Dugas and grandchildren, Morgan Dugas, Mallory Dugas Domingue, Matthew Dugas, David Comeaux, Jeanne-Claire Comeaux, Augie Tammariello, Marcelle Tammariello, Sofia Tammariello, Rafaele Tammarielo, Ainsley Britan, Grace Dugas and Eva Dugas; four brothers, Joseph Pilcher, Edmond Dugas, Kenneth Dugas and Jean Dugas; and two sisters, Janice Dugas Walters and Muriel Pilcher Webb.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen Joseph Dugas and the former Mariam Fournier; his siblings, Ronald Paul Pilcher and Gwen Pilcher Higgins.

Allen "David" Dugas was the eighth child born to Miriam Fournier and Allen Joseph Dugas on January 31, 1941 in Lafayette, Louisiana. He spent most of his childhood in Broussard, Louisiana. He attended St. Cecilia Catholic High School, where he met Jeannette Menard , who became his high school sweetheart and later to become his loving wife of 56 years. David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him. He was a true Patriot and served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1962-1966 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After coming home, he became the owner and operator of Dave''s Car Care Center. David was a devout member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where he also served as a member of the Board of Trustees.

David had a true love for life. He was deeply passionate about many things but most of all his beloved Grandchildren. He was an avid Fisherman, hunter, golfer, and cook. He shared his love and passion for music which he often played in the house and on road trips. He was also known for telling great jokes and his infectious laugh. He was the life of the party and on many occassions he would celebrate by dancing with his beautiful bride. After retirement he became an avid artisan and made beautiful cypress grottos and crosses. His life shifted gears, then he began to slow down and became an avid gardener and took great pride in his crops of tomatoes and satsuma trees.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Dugas, August Tammariello, David Comeaux, Greg Walters, Raymond Walters, Jr., Johnny Walters, John Dugas and Timothy Dugas.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Mark Edward Comeaux, Jay Andre Menard and Mark Dugas.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s SOUTHSIDE location on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until time of service.

A Rosary will be prayed Tuesday at 6:30 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Hospice of Acadiana and Dr. Troy Martin, and also to T-Challa Mitchell, who was his nurse and heaven sent caregiver.
