The Life of Norman Eugene Tyra

Norman Eugene Tyra, age 59, went home to be with our Lord in Heaven on Thursday, May 19, 2016, at Tulane Medical Center, after battling various illnesses in the past few years. Norman was known to many as “Stormin” Norman, but to the ones most precious to his heart; he was “Paw Paw”. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren more than words could describe. They were the reason his heart beat continuously and every breath was taken, every moment of the day. He was always quick to jump in and help anyone, at any time and expected nothing more than a thank you. Even when he was down with his illnesses, he would give everything he had to help someone out. In his life he enjoyed hunting, camping, car racing, but most of all his family. He was better than McGiver when it came to figuring out a fix to whatever was broken. He was a strong man, with an unending love for his family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers. Reverend Leroy Skipper, of Ruston, LA, will be conducting the funeral services. Burial will follow in the Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home – Bertrand, located in Lafayette, LA, on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 from 8:00 am until the time of services.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon Tyra and Esther Andrews both of Ruston, LA, and his fur buddy, Dagget. Mr. Tyra was a resident of Duson, LA. He spent many years of his life in Ruston, LA, and Corpus Christi, TX. He worked as a master craftsman of many trades, better known as a ”jack of all trades”, with a special love of automotive mechanics, automotive paint and body repair, as well as, custom automotive painting.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Debbie Tyra of Duson, LA; a daughter, Heather Bearb and husband Ronnie of Scott, LA; a son, Shane Tyra and wife Heidi of Lafayette, LA; a brother, Gary Tyra (Dena Thomas) of Vernon, LA; and sisters, Debbie New of Tennessee and Wanda Tyra of North Carolina; he also has 7 grandchildren, Aaron and Lyndsey Latiolais, Aivyn and Astyn Tyra, and Rodney, Celeste and Trey Bearb; his special son, Trey Smith; his fur baby, Baylee “Fat Chick”; and his many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Shane Tyra, Aaron Latiolais, Steven Skipper, Trey Smith, Greg Carlucci Sr., Robert Ponce Sr., Patrick Kelly, Gregory Carlucci Jr., Robert “Bubba” Ponce Jr., and Ian Lejeuene.

Honorary Pallbearers are Lyndsey Latiolais, Aivyn Tyra, Astyn Tyra, Ronnie Bearb, Rodney Bearb, and Earl Hebert.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the doctors and nurses at Tulane Medical Center SICU. Without the dedication and persistence of this incredible SICU staff, our family would have not made it through our beloved “Stormin” Norman’s final hours.

Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA is in charge of funeral arrangements.
