The Life of Susie Candler

Susie E. Candler, age 85, died on Monday, May 9, 2016 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.

She was a native of Richmond, Virginia and a long-term resident of Lafayette. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Susie graduated from the University of Richmond and started her career as a high school math and science teacher in Hopewell, Va. There she married Ralph Candler and they had three children. In time, she switched her vocation to Christian education to share her love of God. She touched the lives of many through her service as Director of Christian Education at Broadmoor Presbyterian Church in Baton Rouge and later at First Presbyterian Church in Ocala, Florida. After retirement she continued to use her planning and organizing skills in service to Christ through her work with Presbyterian Women and the Presbytery of South Louisiana. She was honored to attend the General Assembly as a delegate.
Her steadfast courage and grace during a determined four year journey through multiple cancers was an inspiration to all.

Survivors include her children, Sarah Fuller and her husband George, David R. Candler and his wife Tammy, and John Candler and his wife Magali; her sisters, Isabel Northcutt and Peggy Masenheimer; and her grandsons, Ryan and Ben Fuller, Chris, Kevin and Daniel Candler, and David S. Candler.?She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Isabel Easley; her brother, George Easley; and her sister, Nancy Barton.?

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Grace Presbyterian Church in Lafayette.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Reverend Zach Sasser will conduct the funeral services.Her grandsons will be her pallbearers.

The family requests that visitation be observed at Martin and Castille’s SOUTHSIDE location on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of service.

The family would like to recognize the caring attention provided by the staff of Cornerstone South, Griswold Home Care, and sincerely thank Nigah Williams for her loving care and friendship.
