The Life of Anna Judice

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, April 29, 2016 at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary, Mother of the Church for Anna D. Judice, age 96, who died peacefully at her residence in Lafayette on Tuesday, April 26, 2016.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

The Reverend Harold J. Trahan, Pastor of St. Mary''s, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors and Giftbearers will be her granddaughters and granddaughters-in-law, Anna Elledge, Minette Guidry, Grace Doiron, Melanie Hotard, Mandy Edwards, Emily Lewis and Jennifer Lewis. Eulogist will be her son, Steve Judice. Dave Domingue, soloist, will sing, Hail Mary, Gentle Woman, Old Rugged Cross, Be Not Afraid, I Will Never Forget You My People and How Great Thou Art, accompanied on the organ by Deborah Duhon. Eucharistic Ministers will be Aline P. Norwood and Sandra J. Moore.

Survivors include her daughters, Marilyn J. Lewis and Gloria J. Coleman and her spouse Marc, all of Lafayette, and her son Steven C. Judice and his spouse Kathy of Baton Rouge, and her special niece Marcia DeRoussel; eight grandchildren, Anna L. Elledge (Brannon), Richard W. Lewis (Emily Luna), Melanie L. Hotard (Simon), Christopher J. Lewis (Jennifer), Mandy J. Edwards, Minette J. Guidry (David), Libby J. Smith (Garrett) and Grace J. Doiron (Jay), and eight great grandchildren, Kaylie, Ashley and Grant Elledge, Ava, Edie and Amelia Edwards, Lainey Hotard, and Sweet Baby Lewis due in September; by her sisters in law, Alice J. Stutes, Gladys Judice and Verna Judice, and a host of nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Claude Judice, her parents Henri Octave DeRoussel and Marie Olymphe Daigle, her son in law, Richard O. Lewis III, four sisters, Melvina D. Grossie, Editha D. Altemus, Inez D. Daigle, Nola D. Albarado; seven brothers, Wickliffe, Edgar, John, Jack, Noah, David and Daniel DeRoussel.

A native of Saint Martin Parish, Mrs. Judice was a resident of Lafayette for over 90 years.She was a graduate of Lafayette High School and Spencer Business College. She was employed for 19 years at the Lafayette Parish Courthouse in the Agricultural Extension Service Division and later began her career with the Lafayette Parish School System working alongside Pat Calais in the Sales Tax Department. When the decision was made to open Woodvale Elementary School, she was offered the position of school secretary which she held for twenty years taking great joy in nurturing students, faculty, and staff. Upon her retirement from the Lafayette Parish School System in 1986, she became the primary caregiver of her husband and lovingly cared for him until his death from Alzheimers in 2003. She was known for her gentle wisdom, strong faith and powerful prayers. She was a shining example of true unconditional love to her family and all who knew her. Mrs. Judice was a member of the St. Mary''s Altar Society and the Bendel Gardens Rosary Group. She was also a loyal fan of the New Orleans Saints.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed in Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN location on Thursday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Friday from 9:00 AM until time of services.

A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM by her family on Thursday, April 28th and at 10 AM by the Bendel Gardens Rosary Group on Friday, April 29th at Martin & Castille Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be David Guidry, Richard W. Lewis, Christopher Lewis, Marc Coleman, Simon Hotard and Brannon Elledge. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Judice, Larry DeRoussel, Jay Doiron, E.J. Ardoin and Harold Albarado.

The family would like to express their appreciation to John W. Wright, CPA, Nancy and Claude Cech, Masoud Yazdi, M.D., J. Lee Leonard, M.D., Bea Domingue and the Bendel Gardens Rosary Group, and the staff of Intrepid Home Health Care for the love, care, respect and compassion that they gave to our mom.
