The Life of Jesse Chance Briant

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 10:00 AM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Chance Briant, 21, who died on Monday, January 18, 2016 in Lafayette.

Chance Briant had a great heart. Chance was a loyal friend. He was passionate about everything from the arts to veganism. He loved history and everything to do with it. He was academically gifted, a phenomenally talented musician, composer, songwriter, videographer, and producer as well as actor and artist. Everything he did, he did with creativity and excellence. He accomplished much in his 21 years. He was a star and everybody knew it.

Chance was extraordinarily generous and humble. He went out of his way to help other people, including his classmates and teachers. Recently following the Paris terrorist attacks, Chance organized a fundraiser for the expenses of the Merchandise Manager who was killed.

Chance was a graduate of Lafayette High School. He participated in both the Gifted and Talented programs. He was loved and respected by his teachers. Chance Briant was entering his last semester at Loyola University New Orleans, where he was enrolled in the Music Industry Studies Program.

On Monday, January 18th, Chance could no longer live with his sadness and was unable to overcome the weight of depression, taking his own life.

He was believed in, supported, and loved by many.

He is survived by his parents, J.C. and Debbie Emerson Briant; his identical twin brother, Destin Briant; his grandmother, Margie Emerson; his paternal aunts, Brenda Bienvenu, Sue Ann Brown, Mary "Googie" Schexnayder; his maternal aunts, Gloria Emerson, Margaret Beard, Vicky Hines, Janet Knott; and his maternal uncle, Michael Emerson. He is also survived by numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Alice Allen Briant and Randolph Lee Briant; his maternal grandfather, William Champ Emerson; and his cousin, Samuel Emerson.

Pallbearers will be Samuel Riehl, George Saucier, Ricky Briggs, Zachary Meredith, Kieran McIntosh, Dylan Hebert, Kirkland Middleton, Joshua Mata, and John Snyder.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Jody Beard will lead the Celebration of Life on Friday.

A Rosary will be recited by Deacon Mike Craine on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN Location.

The family requests that visitation be observed on Thursday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM and will continue on Friday from 8:00 AM until time of services.
