The Life of George R Fuselier

Lafayette – Funeral services for George R. Fuselier, 86, will be held Saturday January 9, 2016 at 1:00PM in David Funeral Home with Father Brian Harrington Associate Pastor of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church officiating. Mr. Fuselier passed away January 7, 2016.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00AM until time of services. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park.

George was born on May 19, 1929 in Elton, La. He graduated from Elton High School in 1946. He served in the Louisiana National Guard from 1948-1951 and then joined the US Air Force, where he served as an Airman First Class from 1951-1955. During his time in the Air Force, he was stationed in Japan and was able to travel and explore the country. George received his Master of Science in Geology in 1957 from Louisiana State University.  He married his wife Hazel on May 20, 1961 and together they owned and operated a children’s store named La Mere’s for 33 years.  He taught geology for a few semesters at SLCC.  He enjoyed reading, learning and teaching history, traveling, game nights and outdoor activities.  He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

George is survived by his wife of 54 years, Hazel “Mitch” Fuselier; children Catherine Robichaux and husband Bernard, Andrea Bordeaux and husband Daniel, Joseph Fuselier and wife Anne, William Fuselier, and Amelia Haydell and husband Brad; grandchildren Mary and husband Christopher, Amy and fiancé Ted, Kristina, Jacob, Andrew, Alex, Bernie, Ethan, Madeleine, Lauren, Cecile, Jolie, Lizzy, Ava, Noah and Caroline; great-grandchildren Christian and Olivia; and sister Wilmae “Bib” Leger. He is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Marie Fuselier, and siblings Warren and Jane.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jacob Patout, Andrew Fuselier, Alex Fuselier, Bernie Robichaux, Ethan Fuselier, Daniel Bordeaux and Brad Haydell.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Vermilion Catholic/Mount Carmel students and faculty and Acadian Ambulance.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
