Codrey was born on July 5, 1927, in Elton, Louisiana to Odilon and Elta Meaux. She spent the last six years of her life on the family farm where she grew up. A long time resident of Lafayette, she worked in retail for many years as a shoe salesperson at Abdalla''s for twenty-five years and as the manager of The Boot Store, selling boots and western wear for twenty-three years. At age seventy-five, she retired from full-time work and dedicated herself to taking care of her husband and grandchildren.

She was a dedicated mother and grandmother. From Cub Scouts den mother to class trip chaperone, she was an active participant in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She was an accomplished homemaker and member of the Camillias Club of the Louisiana Volunteers for Family and Community, recognized for her fifty-four years of active service. She was especially skilled at needlework and generously shared crocheted hats, scarves, and afghans with any and all. She was a devout member of St. Genevieve''s Catholic Church of Lafayette and a long-time member of Court Alice Boucher of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Codrey and her late husband, Wade, were prominent members of the horse racing industry of Louisiana. She was a huge supporter of her husband''s career and, whether attending races, entertaining clients, or traveling the country to major racing events, Codrey loved the thrill of horse racing. She actively followed the results of local and national races, even after she and Wade retired to their farm in the country, where they continued raising Louisiana-bred quarter horses. She was also an active member of the Louisiana and American Quarter Horse Associations.

Codrey was proud of her Cajun and French Creole heritage. Her first Meaux ancestor arrived in New Orleans around 1770 and fought with the Spanish during the American Revolution to defeat the British in the Battle of Baton Rouge. For his service, Michel Meaux received a Spanish land grant that includes the property where Codrey''s home now stands. She was proud to be the daughter of hard-working, French-speaking, South Louisiana rice and cattle farmers.

Whether you knew her as "Mrs. Codrey", "Mrs. Navarre", "T-Code", "Mama Codrey", "Granny", or "Mama", she was undoubtedly known as one of the sweetest, kindest, most generous persons you had ever met. She loved music and dancing, never met a stranger, and had a soft spot for strays. She was a wonderful Cajun cook and, whether at her beloved home on South Sterling Street in Lafayette, or at the farm in Kaplan, her dinner table always had enough room for another hungry mouth or two.

Pallbearers will be Keith Navarre, Emile Navarre, Tony Navarre, C. Wade Navarre, II, Tommy Navarre, and Alan Breaux.

Honorary Pallbearer will be Brady Navarre.
