The Life of Gloria Faye Foreman

Gloria Faye Latiola Foreman, 70, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning amidst her family at Lafayette General Hospital. She was a loved daughter, wife, mother, aunt, nannie, grandmother and great grandmother and had many friends and acquaintances.

Gloria was born in Egan, Louisiana on September 30, 1945 to Edles and Rosalie Latiola. She attended school at Egan Elementary and was a 1963 graduate of that High School, where she was class salutatorian. She then became a legal secretary for a prominent Crowley law firm. It was in Crowley that she met and married Richard Foreman in 1965. They immediately moved to Lafayette in conjunction with a job transfer for Richard. She became the Executive Secretary to the General Manager of the newly opened Evangeline Downs Racetrack.

She and Richard adopted two children in the early 1970s, after which she retired from the business world and became a full time Mom. When the children grew to school age, Gloria and Richard became heavily involved in school fund-raising and other school activities. They were the co-founders of the PTA at Katherine Drexel Elementary when the children began attending school. She and Richard coached T-Ball for 10 years in the Lafayette leagues. When the children reached high school, at Comeaux High, she and Richard became instrumental in fund raising activities for the Comeaux High School Band and the Comeaux High School Choral Department. They were among the first groups of fund-raising volunteers when the Cajundome opened in the mid 1980s. They continued to work the Cajundome and USL/UL sporting events until they retired in 2008.

In 1984, Gloria founded D.E.A.R. (Drug Education and Resources), an organization dedicated to informing and educating parents of the drug problems facing our children. The organization held parents’ meetings and seminars and did TV and newspaper programs and articles focusing on the problem. D.E.A.R. worked closely with the drug education program of the Lafayette Parish School Board.
