The Life of Eugene Donald Lanier

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Martin & Castille''s La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette for Eugene D. "Doc" Lanier, 88, who died on Saturday, December 5, 2015.

Entombment will be in Holy Mary Mother of God Mausoleum in Lafayette.

Reverend William Schambough, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Jesse Crouch and Sean Lanier. Giftbearers will be Jackson and Brooklyn Crouch. Musical selections will be “Amazing Grace”, “Shepherd Me, Oh God”, “Ave Maria”, “Make Me A Channel of Your Peace” and “Peace in the Valley”.

He leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Dayle Lanier Guillory of Lafayette; a son, Vance Eugene Lanier and his wife, Liz of Milton; one sister, Eugenie Lanier Miller of Ponchatoula; one sister-in-law, Nell Lanier of Lafayette; six grandchildren, Jodie E. Crouch, III and his spouse Jasen of Shreveport, Jesse E. Crouch of Lafayette, Sean E. Lanier and his wife, Ashley Hanks Lanier of Lafayette, Jenessa L. Guillory of Lafayette, Micah J. Lanier of Lafayette and Joseph L. Solomon and his wife, Danielle of San Antonio; four great grandchildren, Jackson D. Crouch, Brooklyn R. Crouch and Kyriana S. Solomon and Amelia Kate Lanier all of Lafayette; and three step great grandchildren, Chlowee, Jordan and Lillian Solomon of San Antonio.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Erie Lee Parent Lanier; one daughter, Vicci Lanier Crouch Guillet; a grandson, Phillip Jude Guillory; one son-in-law, Terry J. Guillory; his parents, Alma Drude Lanier and Donald Sidney Lanier; two brothers, Frank Lanier and Herbert Lanier and his wife, Gloria Lanier; his in-laws, Leonie Smith Parent and Beauregard Jean Parent, Sr.; and brother-in-law, Beauregard Jean Parent, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Jodie Crouch III, Jesse Crouch, Joseph Solomon, Sean Lanier, Micah Lanier, Jenessa Guillory.

Mr. Lanier was a Graduate of Louisiana State University earning a degree in Geology. He obtained a job as a mud engineer for Magabar and was transferred to Lafayette in 1958. He subsequently became a businessman owning 2 Texaco Service stations, one on Cameron and one on Johnston St. He developed Lanier Tire and Auto Clinic, next door to the Johnston street location, which also sold Lawn Boy Lawn Mowers and Murphy Bicycles. He very briefly owned a Metal Building Business. Later he was instrumental in bringing Toyota and Volvo to Lafayette through Acadian Toyota Volvo. He had previously owned the AMC dealership from 1967-69. After selling the Toyota-Volvo Dealership he opened Pizza Playhouse on Kaliste Saloom Road. Which he then transformed into The 5th Avenue catering facility. He finally retired 2002.

Mr Lanier was extremely active in the Community, being involved in Civic organizations and taking leadership rolls. He served on the board to build Holy Cross Church, where he served as an usher and along with his wife served as Marriage Preparation Counselors. He served twice as Past Grand Knight for the Our Lady of Fatima K.C. Council, Past President of Rotary Club South, and Past President of L.A.R.C., where he was instrumental by bringing Noel Acadien au Village as a fundraiser to L.A. R. C. He was also active in professional Organizations serving as President of the N.A. D. A and on the board of directors for the A.I.A.D.A just to name a few. For recreation he bowled with his wife in the Lazy League at Lafayette Lanes on the team A & G Texaco. He was very active in the Democratic party in the early years in Lafayette.

The family would like to thank everyone at The Heart Hospital, Rosewood Assisted Living facility and Hospice of Acadiana, especially Sherry and Dr. Hoffpauir, as well as Cornerstone for taking such good care of Mr. Lanier.

We would also like to thank Earline Benoit for being such a special care giver to our Mother and father over the years as well as Angus Kilchrist and her special caregivers for the tender loving care they showed to our parents.

A Rosary will be recited on Monday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille''s SOUTHSIDE Location.

The family requests that visitation be observed on Monday from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until time of services.
