The Life of Beverly Claire Smith

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015, at a 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette, for Beverly H. Smith, age 90, who passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Maison de Lafayette.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Reverend Brian Taylor, Pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the Funeral Services.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Sweeney Smith; her daughter-in-law, Cynthia Smith Flynn and her husband, Frank; her granddaughter, Allison Smith; her grandson, Neil Smith; her sister-in-law, Celima Viator Hebert; her nephews, Mark Hebert, Lyon Hebert and his wife, Arlene and their children, Ashley and Lindsey; and her "adopted" niece, Annette LeBlanc Lutgring.
She was preceded in death by her son, Dr. Richard Brian Smith; her parents, Lona Lyons Hebert and Roland Hebert, Sr.; her brother, Roland "Bobby" Hebert, Jr.; her nephew, Farley Hebert; and her niece, Stephanie Hebert.

A native of Jeanerette, LA and a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana for most of her life, Beverly was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and an all around giving person to all. She graduated high school at the Academy of the Sacred Heart. She then attended SLI and received her BA degree, with a major in French. After graduation, Beverly and her husband, Sweeny moved to Memphis for him to complete his optometry degree. They moved back to Lafayette in 1949. Beverly taught business courses and held administrative positions at Spencer Business College for 24 years, where she was later appointed Dean of Students and Dean of Studies. She retired in 1974. She remained active in the community as a member of L''Avenir and presided as the club''s first president. Beverly was also a member of Les Deux Douzaines, a parishioner of St. Jules Catholic Church, and did community services for many years.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Neil Smith, Frank Flynn, Brian Cantrell, David Koke, Jr., Neil Shaw, Morgan Smith, Jr., and Lyon Hebert.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Beverly''s name to Heart of Hospice, 201 W. Vermilion Street, Lafayette, LA 70501.
