The Life of Norman Pierre Foret

Norman Pierre Foret, age 86, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 5, 2015 in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers with Rev. Bob Ogle and Deacon Bob McDonner officiating. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 9:00 am until the time of service. Military Honors will be held at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the service.

Mr. Foret was born on August 19, 1929 to the late Benson Pierre Foret and Iselle Foret. He obtained a B.A. Degree from Louisiana State University in 1952 and a J. D. Degree in 1958, was in the United States Air Force from 1952 until 1954 as a First Lieutenant. His duties included an Adjutant and serving as Base Defense Council for Court Martials. Mr. Foret practiced law in Lafayette from 1958 until his 2000 semi-retirement and was a very active general trial practice mainly in the field of personal injury representing plaintiffs and insurance company defendants. A member and Past President of the Lafayette Parish Bar Association, active member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the bar of the U. S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana and the Bar Association for the Fifth U. S. Court of Appeals. He was honored to serve as the first Commander of the newly organized Arnold Air Society at L.S.U. in 1952, served as Principal and Instructor at St. Genevieve CCD School from 1959-1960 and was appointed the first Chairman for the State of Louisiana Muscular Dystrophy Drive in 1960. Norman''s activities included being a volunteer tutor for Volunteer Instructors Teaching Adults (VITA) since 1999 and a volunteer for Hospice of Acadiana, Inc since 2002. Norman P. Foret was a most loving and Godly husband and father who loved reading, mostly history, gourmet cooking, and following sports, especially football.

The Biography below was submitted by Norman P. Foret at the request of the Lafayette Bar Association of all former presidents. “I was born on August 19, 1929 in New Orleans, Louisiana. I am a practicing Roman Catholic married to Lois M. Landess. We are blessed with three children, Maura, Laird and Danielle. Everyone in our family is a college graduate. I obtained a B.A. Degree from Louisiana State University in 1952 and a J.D. Degree from the same institution in 1958. I was in active military service in the United States Air Force from 1952-1954 mustering out as a First Lieutenant. My primary duties included being an Adjutant and serving as Base Defense Counsel for Court Martials. I practiced law here in Lafayette, Louisiana from 1958 until semi-retirement in 2000. It was a very active general trial practice mainly in the field of personal injury representing plaintiffs and insurance company defendants. I am a member of the Lafayette Parish Bar Association and served as its president. I also am enrolled in the Louisiana State Bar Association, the bar of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana and the Bar Association for the Fifth U.S. Court of Appeals. I was honored as the first Commander of the newly organized Arnold Air Society at L.S.U. in 1952. I was also privileged to serve as Principal and instructor at St. Genevieve CCD School 1959-1960. He is survived by the love of his life for 48 years, Lois Mae Landess Foret; three children, Maura Leith Foret Duhon, Laird Pierre Foret and Danielle Cherie Foret Cliburn; and his two grandchildren, Cohl Christian Cliburn and Ellyson Morgan Foret and her mother Andrea Henderson; his two son-in-laws; James Patrick Duhon and Robert "Bobby" Lantz Cliburn; nephew, Wayne Foret and three nieces; Judy Foret Scott, Patty Foret Katterhenry and Darlene Foret; brother-in-law, Ivy Leroux.

Mr. Foret was preceded in death by his brothers, Nolan Foret and Norris Foret; sister, Bernice Foret Leroux; nephew, I.J. Leroux and niece, Gayle Leroux.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Foret, Danton Landess, Michael Landess, Paul Wells, James P. Duhon, and Robert “Bobby” Cliburn. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mr. Foret’s great nephews Travis Leroux, Garret Leroux, and Colin Leroux.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Norman’s name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street Suite 200, Lafayette, Louisiana 70503 or the charity of your choice.
