The Life of Rosa Mouton Gwin

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 5, 2015, at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette for Rosa Mouton Gwin, age 95, who died on Friday, October 2, 2015, on the Feast Day of The Holy Guardian Angels, surrounded by her family, at Heart Hospital in Lafayette.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Reverend William Ruskoski, Associate Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Broussard, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Ashton Mouton, Jr., Julie Mouton Delaune and Jean Mouton. Giftbearers will be Catherine Rose Weber, Ashton Michelle Weber, O''Neal Weber IV, Destin Mouton and Christopher Mouton. Jodi Bollich, organist and vocalist, and Raymond Hebert, vocalist will sing for the services, "Turn Your Eyes Toward Jesus", "On Eagles'' Wings", "Ave Maria", "Panis Angelicus", "Pie Jesu" and "Be Not Afraid" accompanied on the violin by Lauren Baker.

Survivors include her children, Stella Rose Weber and her husband O''Neal, Jr. , Carolyn Mouton Albarado and her husband, Alan, Ashton Mouton Jr. and his wife, Jean and John Mouton and his wife, Jodie Semar Mouton, all of Lafayette; four grandchildren, O''Neal Weber III, Mark Ashton Weber, Julie Mouton Delaune, Ashton Mouton III, all of Lafayette; three step grandchildren, Mark Ridings, Scott Bonds, Greg Bonds; six great grandchildren, Casey Weber, Catherine Rose Weber, Ashton Michelle Weber, O''Neal Weber IV, Destin Mouton, Christopher Mouton; seven step great grandchildren, Abby, Anna Claire, Katie and Andrew Bonds, Honor Grace, River Thomas and Catcher Ridings.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ashton J. Mouton, Sr., and by her second husband, Elmer W. Gwin, her parents, Dr. J. W. Dupuis, Sr. and the former Stella Theriot; her daughter, Catherine Mouton; and her brothers, Dr. J. W. Dupuis, Jr. and Roy Dupuis, Sr.
Rosa Mouton Gwin, wife of former Mayor Ashton J Mouton, Sr., was born in Youngsville on October 26, 1919. She graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1936 and from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now University of Louisiana Lafayette) in 1941 with a Degree in Lower Elementary Education. Rosa was a member of NSK Sorority and the SLI 50''s Plus Club and Eighties Ladies. She taught at Myrtle Place School and Cathedral Carmel for thirty years.

An exceptionally devout Roman Catholic, she was a member of the Lay Carmelites and the Catholic Daughters of America, Court of Our Lady of the Rosary, Director of the Padre Pio Group, the Legion of Mary. Beginning at the age of eighty-nine, she made over eighty-five hundred rosaries for the Missions and as gifts for those very dear to her. Rosa was also a member of the Living Rosary.

"Mom is leaving us with a legacy of faith and love." "She was loving and kind and one of the sweetest people to everyone she met."

Pallbearers will be John Mouton, O''Neal Weber, Jr., O''Neal Weber III, Mark Ashton Weber, Casey Weber and Ashton Mouton III.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Stephen Dupuis, Jimmy Dupuis, Joey Dupuis, Roy Dupuis, Jr., Mark Ridings, Gary Bonds, Howard Norton, Jr., Scott Bonds, Greg Bonds, Bryan Hebert, Dr. Daniel Carroll, John Dupuis III and Weldon Granger.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN location on Sunday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Monday from 9:00 AM until time of the service.

A Rosary will be prayed by the Lay Carmelites and the Catholic Daughters of America Sunday at 6:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions can be made in Rosa''s name to The Catherine A. Mouton Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 44290, USL Foundation, Lafayette, LA 70504.

The family would like to express their appreciation to First Options Home Health, the staff of Heart Hospital, Dr. Daniel Carroll and his wife, Ellen, Heart of Hospice, Tamara Ben, Darla Breaux, Julie Broussard, Sister Laura, Priscilla Habetz, Liz "Teeka" Weber and the staff of Ken''s Thrifty Way Pharmacy for the wonderful care and attention given to Rosa.
