The Life of Sylvan Manuel

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 2:00 PM in Martin & Castille''s La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette for Sylvan Manuel, age 86, who died on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at his residence in Lafayette.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pastor Ben Davis of Pathway Church in Lafayette, will conduct the funeral services. Eulogist will be his oldest son, Greg Manuel. Karen Broussard, organist and soloist, will sing for the services.

Survivors include his loving wife, Eta "Eva" Smith Manuel; his daughter, Marcella Manuel; his two sons, Gregory A. Manuel and his wife Missy, and Victor Manuel and his wife Mary; his beloved sister-in-law, Vicky Myers; his four grandchildren, Melanie Manuel Davis, Sarah Manuel, Jacques Manuel and Noah E. Manuel; and his six great grandchildren, Jackson Davis, Silas Davis, Luke Davis, Ezra Davis, Ramni Manuel, and Orion Manuel.

He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Emily and Henry Dupuy; his two sisters, Maxie and Lula; his three brothers, Warren, John and Kenny.

A native of Port Barre and resident of Lafayette, Louisiana for most of his life, Sylvan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him. He began a legacy as a home builder in 1963 through 1985, which at the time was known as Manuel Construction, a tradition which continues today with his sons. An avid outdoorsman, he loved all things in nature. From bird-watching to fishing and boating, he loved experiencing the great outdoors. Aside from his outdoor hobbies, he also wrote poetry and biographical prose. Even after his stroke, he kept up his workout routine for years and years. Sylvan was married to the love of his life, Eva Smith for 47 years. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Pallbearers will be Greg Manuel, Vic Manuel, Jacques Manuel, Waymon Ross, Marcella Manuel, and Missy Manuel.

Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great grandchildren; Noah, Jackson, Silas, Luke, Ezra, Ramni, and Orion.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Hospice of Acadiana and their compassionate staff members.

The family will receive guests in Martin & Castille''s SOUTHSIDE location on Friday from 9:00 AM until time of service.
