The Life of Lonnie F. Jernigan

It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of our loved one, Lonnie F. Jernigan, 80. Lonnie was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his death. He was born in Yoncapin, Arkansas on October 20, 1934 and went to be with the Lord on August 30, 2015. Lonnie moved to Lafayette in 1954 working in the oil industry until 1962. He then entered into retail and motel management until his retirement in 1997. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe for 2 years where he achieved the rank of First Sergeant.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers. Luther Burney, Assistant to the Pastor of First Baptist Church will conduct the services.

Burial will take place at Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 59 years, Cecile Simon; his two daughters and one son, Cindy and son-in-law Jim Jennings of Vidor, Texas, Cathy and son-in-law Kevin Hernandez of Maurice, LA, Carl and daughter-in-law Vicky Rapp Jernigan of Cumming, Georgia; sister-in-law Evelyn Jernigan of Bradley, Arkansas and several nieces and nephews.

Lonnie lived his life to the fullest with love and compassion for others especially his wife and children whom he adored. He was a kind and giving person who loved people. Lonnie loved to fish and play golf with his children. He also worked with stained glass and loved to make gifts for others.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frank Jernigan, Beulah Petty and step-father John Cooper and two brothers Morris Jernigan and Harold Jernigan.

Lonnie''s family wishes to thank Altus Hospice of Beaumont, Texas for their support, care and compassion during their time of need.

Pall bearers will be Carl Jernigan, Kevin Hernandez, Jim Jennings, Marc Lockard, Stacey Romero and Julien Comeaux.

The Family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand Drive on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Visiting hours will resume on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 from 8:00 am until time of the services.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Altus Hospice, 370 North 10th Street,
Beaumont, TX 77702.

Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA is in charge of funeral arrangements.
