The Life of Billy Gene Emanis

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at a 1:00 P.M. Service in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette for Billy G. Emanis, 82, who died on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Louisiana Extended Care Hospital in Lafayette surrounded by his family.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pastors Jeff Ables and David Baudoin of Crossroads Church in Lafayette, will conduct the funeral services.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Janet Nicholson Emanis of Duson; two daughters, Charlotte Meaux-Delahoussaye and her husband, Errol of Crowley; Gayla Emanis of Lafayette; one son, Kerry Emanis and his wife, Shelly Richard Emanis of Duson; seven grandchildren, Don Meaux and his wife Christy, Ryan Meaux and his wife Lesley, Garrett Meaux, Tyler Meaux, Emily Emanis, Meghan Emanis and Will Emanis; and one great grandchild, Oliver Meaux.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Will Emanis and Vada Graves Emanis; three brothers, Adron Emanis, Winston Emanis and Harloyd Emanis and two sisters, Dixie Emanis Adams and Patsy Helpenstell.

A resident of Lafayette, Louisiana for most of his life, Mr. Billy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He loved God, his family and his country. He was a devoted husband and father who took great pride in the fact that he worked hard to provide his family’s needs. He worked for Grey Wolf Drilling Company for 32 years, retiring as vice president. He represented them well throughout his career. He was a family man that loved taking his family on summer and winter vacations. His favorite time of year was during the Christmas season when he enjoyed surprising his family with special gifts. He has never gone without giving his loving wife, Janet, two dozen roses on their anniversary/her birthday. He was a son who always honored his mother and father. He was affectionately known by his children, grand children and their friends as “Poppa”. Not only did he have a passion for life, but he also had a passion for the game of golf. He was a member of the city park courses and loved to play at Bayou Bend Country Club in Crowley. He has shot several even par rounds and has shot under par many times. He has one career hole in one to add to his achievements.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Chandler, Ricky Patin, Don Meaux, Ryan Meaux, Garrett Meaux, Tyler Meaux and Will Emanis.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Nelson, Gay Keller, Tommy Clark, Tony Stewart and Jimmy King.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN location on Tuesday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until time of service.

Special Thanks: The family would like to thank all of Mr. Billy’s doctors and nurses at Lafayette General Hospital and Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care of Opelousas; Barbara “Bobbi” Granger, his caregiver; his childhood friend, Mr. Bobby Chandler and his wife Yvonne; and Mona Ogima Broussard for their time, love and compassion given during this difficult time.
