Mrs. Thibeaux, daughter of the late Kirby Séraphin Rogers and the former Marguerite Louise Minvielle, was born May 14, 1930 and reared in Jeanerette, LA. Mary was the second of twelve children, a 1947 graduate of St. Joseph High School in Jeanerette and a 1951 graduate of Sacred Heart College in Grand Coteau. Upon graduation, she became a governess for a family in Puerto Rico. Returning to Jeanerette, she was employed at Wormser’s Department Store where she sold her future husband a pair of slippers. She married Bernard Cornelius Thibeaux, Sr. in 1952. Over the years Mary and Ben were active members at Our Lady of Fatima, St. Mary’s and, most recently, St. Patrick''s Parish where she served as an extraordinary Eucharistic minister and decorated the church for the liturgical seasons. Mary also cooked dinner once a month for the residents of Faith House, a shelter for women.

Mary was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother; her dedication to her family was evident in many ways. One that was especially dear to them was her weekly Sunday dinner with wonderfully prepared food, a set table and a place for everyone. Mary was an avid tennis player and was nicknamed “Tiger T-Bo” on the court where she enjoyed a special camaraderie with her tennis buddies. Mary also loved to find and restore antique furniture. When not baking or making pralines, she enjoyed sewing and was a member of the La Fonda “Sewing Club”; she also loved to dance.

Mary was a beautiful role model for her children as they witnessed her sweetness and enjoyment of life as well as her goodness to those in need. In this she expressed her Christian faith. The following was printed about Mary at graduation in the Sacred Heart yearbook, Memorare: “It’s hard to say how we feel about Mary. Her genuineness, sincerity, kindness are impressed upon anyone who knows her. But more than any of these, there is a quality which distinguishes her which embodies all of her good points, and these are her only points. That is her utter lovableness. ‘For it was Mary’ who for four years has been the brightest spot in our lives.”

Survivors include her children: Juliet McKay of Lafayette, Bernard C. Thibeaux, Jr. and his wife, Angela, of Lafayette, Mary “Ginger" Doucet and her husband, Dale, of Milton, David Thibeaux and his wife, Nanette, of Lafayette, Renee Bernard and her husband, Charles “Chuck” of Lafayette, and Roger Thibeaux and his wife, Ruth Ann, of Milton; nineteen grandchildren: Kevin McKay and his wife, Sara, Meghan McKay Bouquet and her husband, Kevin , Beau McKay, B.
