The Life of John Howard Griffin

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 27, 2015, at 10:00 AM in Martin & Castille''s La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette, for John H. Griffin, age 82, who died on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at his residence.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Reverend Weldon Moak, Pastor of First Baptist Church in Broussard, will conduct the funeral services. Eulogists will be John Kyle Griffin and Wendell Brian Griffin.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years, Rose Mary Griffin; his sons, John Kyle Griffin and Wendell Brian Griffin; his brother, Billy Ray Griffin; and his grandchildren, Beau Griffin, and Brittney Griffin Knight and her husband Zachary.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Ira Griffin; his brothers, Claude Elbert Griffin, George Clifford Griffin and Glenn Griffin; and his sisters, Yvonne Griffin and Betty Lou Griffin.

A native of Daisetta, Texas and a resident of Youngsville, John had retired from Exxon with over 30 years of service. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. His joys were family first, hunting and fishing, traveling, and fiddle and Blue Grass music. He will be deeply missed.

Pallbearers will be Henry Pruitt, David Pruitt, Bert Griffin, Jon Vannoy, Beau Griffin and Zachary Knight.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Calvin Griffin and Clarence Vannoy.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s SOUTHSIDE location on Sunday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Monday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
