The Life of Jerry D Beard
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 10:00 AM in The Bayou Church, 2234 Kaliste Saloom Rd., Lafayette, for Jerry D. Beard, age 59, who died at 6:24 PM on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at his home in Lafayette.
Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pastor Lyndale Holloway will conduct the service. Eulogists are Erin Shipley, Jim Craft and Brent Henley.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Beard of Lafayette; two daughters, Erin Cathleen Shipley and her husband Jeff and Kelly Maureen Minter and her husband Danny; one son, Ryan Patrick Beard and his girlfriend Rebecca Jesgar; a grandchild, Alyson Shipley; one sister, Janelle Button; two brothers, Glen Beard and Paul Owen Beard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elma and Richard Beard and his brother, Weldon Beard, and his boxer Jeb Stewart Beard.
Jerry was born on July 25, 1955 and was a native of Alexandria and a resident of Lafayette. He received a scholarship and played football at Northwestern State University. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with the Lafayette City Police and also worked for Frank''s Casing Crew. Mr. Beard was known around town for his vast knowledge and passion for fine cigars. Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Salman Malad, Dr. Thomas Votier, Dr. Michael Horaist, and the entire nursing staff at Lafayette General Medical Center. The family would also like to thank Chad and Maria with Heart of Hospice and The Cancer Center of Acadiana.

The family requests that visitation be observed on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Beard, Danny Minter, Jeff Shipley, Ross Craft, Brent Henley, Greg Beard, Ronnie Beard and Johnny Carnes. Honorary pallbearers are Ricky Williams, Butch Campbell, James Richard, Greg Mosing and Mike Guy.
