The Life of Betty Ducharme
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at a 1:30 PM Mass of Christian Burial in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott for Betty Cormier Ducharme, age 71, who died on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at her residence in Scott.
Inurnment will be in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery at a later date.
Reverend Thomas Voorhies, Pastor of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lector will be Rachel Ducharme. Giftbearers will be Aimee Prejean, Alison Olivier and Shelby Walling.
Survivors include her three daughters, Michaela Walling and husband John, Melissa Olivier and husband Mike, and Michelle Clouatre and husband Darren; her son, Michael Ducharme and wife Rachel; her sisters, Susie Roy and husband Ronnie, and Judy Wiggs and husband Warren; her seven grandchildren, Mitchell Prejean, Aimee Prejean, Shelby Walling, Alison Olivier, Blake Ducharme, Eric Ducharme, Bradley Clouatre; and her great grandchildren, Addison Prejean, Olivia Prejean and Noah Ducharme.
She was preceded in death by her son, Mitchell Ducharme; her parents, Ulysse and Lucia Cormier; her grandson, Brennan Clouatre; and her great granddaughter, Cheyenne Prejean.
A resident of Lafayette for most of her life, Betty was a 1961 graduate of Lafayette High School. She was retired having worked for 30 years at ULL as an administrative assistant. Betty was active in Congres Mondial Rendevous de Cormier and served as secretary treasurer for the Council on Aging at Acadian Heritage Community. Her hobbies included genealogy and reading. She will be deeply missed, but will be best remembered for her love of family and her wonderful cooking.
Pallbearers are Mike Olivier, Mitchell Prejean, Blake Ducharme, Eric Ducharme, Warren Wiggs, Justin Guilbeau and Bradley Clouatre.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s SCOTT location on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
A Rosary will be prayed Tuesday at 6:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
