The Life of Alexander Ruffin Stirling Jr.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, January 16, 2015, at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Broussard, for Alexander R. Stirling, Jr. who left this earth and joined his wife of sixty-five years on Tuesday, January 13, 2015. Visitation will be held on Friday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Broussard from 11:00 AM until the time of service.

Originally a native of Franklin, Louisiana, Alex lived in Lafayette from 1946 until his death. His time in Lafayette was quite productive. After graduating as president of his class in 1947 from SLI (now ULL) he married Mary Louise Perry and had three children.

Alex was a WWII veteran, President of the Kiwanis in 1966, Chairman of the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce in 1969, was awarded the Civic Cup in 1971 and was instrumental in the creation of the Bayou Vermilion District. His efforts at making Lafayette a better place to live will be enjoyed for generations to come. He owned Alex Stirling’s Marine for over 30 years with his wife until his retirement.

He is survived by his children Elette Meaux, Alexander Stirling III and Perry Stirling; his grandchildren Patrick Stutes, II, Laura LeBlanc, Lani Raush, Kelly Haydel, David Mahler, Jr., Jennifer Devall, Michael Stirling, Cara Stirling, Alex Stirling, Jacob Stirling; 21 great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Dr. C.T. Stirling, Tom Stirling, Guy Stirling, Beverly Stirling, Catherine Stirling Porter.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Louise Perry Stirling; and his parents, Alexander R. Stirling, Sr. and Caro G. Taylor Stirling.

The family would like to thank Camelot of Broussard, Hospice of Acadiana, and his longtime caregiver, Linda Theriot.
