The Life of Edwin Winfield Bowen

1866-1953 Professor of Latin at Randolph-Macon College for 56 years, he lived at 305 College Avenue in Ashland. He rode a bicycle to his office each day and to lunch across the railroad tracks. Diligent with his routine Dr. Bowen continued to ride his bike even with poor eyesight. At the age of 85 Dr. Bowen was killed while crossing the tracks on his bike. Friends and colleagues insisted at the time that Dr. Bowen was on time, but the train was early.
