The Life of Joseph Melchor Guidroz

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 24, 2014 at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette, for Joseph Melchoir Guidroz, 87, who died on Friday, November 21, 2014 at River Oaks Nursing Home in Lafayette surrounded by his family.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park.

Reverend Keith Labove, Pastor of St. Patrick Church in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Brenda G. DeMette, Gwen M. Guidroz and Angie Huval . Giftbearers will be Sandra Melancon, Jodi Snelling and Linda Guidroz. Musical Selections will be provided by Brittany Morvant and her accompanist.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda G. DeMette and her husband, Harry of Lafayette and Gwen M. Guidroz of Lafayette; one son, Alvin J. Guidroz and his wife, Linda Devillier of Arnaudville; thirteen grandchildren, Brittany Morvant, Angie Huval, Christopher Guidroz, Eric Melancon, Janet Robicheaux, Phala Downey, Annette Huval, Kevin Huval, Jodi Snelling, Joe Melancon, Scotty Melancon, Karen Tauzin and Melinda Melancon; twelve great grandchildren; and two sisters, Honorine Roger and Wilma Hebert.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joycelyn Rabeaux Guidroz; his mother, Ada Legere Guidroz and his father, Joseph Guidroz; two sons, James Mercy Melancon and Fred Allen Melancon; one brother, August Guidroz; two sisters, Alma Guidroz and Florence Valentine.

Joseph Melchoir Guidroz was a native of Cankton, Louisiana and a resident of Lafayette for most of his life. He opened Guidroz Food Center in 1959, where he was owner and operator for many years. Mr. Guidroz worked very hard at the store until his retirement. He always possessed many great virtues which he passed on to his children and grandchildren, always being humble, loyal, positive and a great listener. Mr. Guidroz was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to all and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Pallbearers will be Alvin J. Guidroz, Harry DeMette, Gilbert Morvant, Scotty Melancon, Eric Melancon, Kevin Huval and Christopher Guidroz.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Joseph Melancon, Lester Babineaux, Steven Snelling and Victor Rodriguez.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN location on Sunday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM and on Monday from 9:00 AM until time of service.

A Rosary will be prayed on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at 6:30 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.

The Guidroz family would like to give special thanks to the staff of River Oaks Retirement Manor and the staff of Heart of Hospice.
