The Life of Laurel Lee Domingue

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at a 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, for Laurel Lee Gillette Domingue, 84, who died on Monday, November 17, 2014, at her home in Lafayette.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Reverend Msgr. Keith DeRouen, Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Angels Church in Opelousas, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Reverend Msgr. Charles Mallet will be the Con-Celebrant.

Survivors include her children, Laura Domingue and Renee Davis and her husband Charles "Chip" Davis, IV all of Houston, Tx., and Patrick Domingue, Jr. of Los Angeles, Ca.; her daughter in law, Jeanne Wurzlow Domingue Creech of St. Petersburg, Fl.; her grandchildren, Ashley Domingue Glover and husband Gordon of Ocala, Fl., Morgan Domingue and wife Morgan of St. Petersburg, Fl., James, Laurel and Charles Davis all of Houston, Tx.; her great grandchildren, Finn Domingue, and Elsa and Bennett Glover.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick James Domingue; her son, Michael Domingue; and her parents, Hosea Gillette and Lydia Bihm Gillette.

Born September 22, 1930, in Ville Platte, Mrs. Domingue came to Lafayette as a young girl from Mobile, Alabama. She was a graduate of Mt. Carmel School and attended SLI where she was a member of Tri Sigma sorority.

She was a devoted wife and loving Mother who always put her family first. Her zest for life, vivacious personality and quick wit made her a friend to many and a pleasure to everyone around her. She was creative and expressed her diverse artistic talents through painting, sewing, costuming and decorating for special events and occasions.

She was active in many church, community and social organizations in Lafayette. She was a member of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist and a Carmelite Angel. She joined the Junior League of Lafayette in 1961 and served on numerous committees as an active and sustaining member, especially enjoying bringing puppet shows to school children and decorating for Christmas Comes Alive at Acadian Village. She was a longtime member of Les Deux Douzaines, visionaries and supporters of a children’s museum which became the Lafayette Natural History Museum and Planetarium. She served many years on their Board and played an important role in moving the museum to its downtown location. She was among the first group of volunteers who helped organize and decorate for the Bishop’s Charity Ball. In recent years, she proudly supported the Horse Farm.

She loved Mardi Gras and was actively involved in many local Mardi Gras activities. She served the Greater Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras Association’s Krewe of Gabriel in numerous ways. She was a Royal Maid in the court of King Gabriel in 1950 and supported her husband’s lifelong involvement with the Krewe. She created the original pattern for the royal pages'' hats still used today and decorated the stage for the ball for many years as a member of the “Krewe of Ku Ku.” She was also a member of the Krewe of Attakapas from its early beginnings, serving on the Board and in other distinguished roles.

In addition to her tireless work as a wife and mother, she enjoyed working part-time at the Unique Shoppe and Natalee’s. Her other loves, besides her family, Mardi Gras, and the community were antique shopping, estate sales and auctions.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Domingue, Jr., Morgan Domingue, Chip Davis, Theo Domingue, Richard Domingue and Stephen Domingue.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN location on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until time of service.

A Rosary will be prayed by Theo Domingue on Tuesday at 6:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
