The Life of Betty Dufrene

Betty Jordan Dufrene went to join family and friends to meet her Lord on September 22, 2014 at 3:00 in the afternoon at her home, in Broussard, LA.

Funeral services in celebration of Mrs. Dufrene’s 87 years of life will be held on Saturday, September 27th at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Broussard. The Dufrene Family will be receiving visitors on Friday evening between 5:00 and 8:00 PM at Martin & Castille Funeral Home located at 600 East Farrel Road, Lafayette, Louisiana. In addition, visitation is available at 9:30 AM on Saturday before the service at First Baptist Church of Broussard located at 210 S Morgan Ave, Broussard, LA.

It was her wish that friends and family attending her celebration wear pink as a memento of her life as a breast cancer survivor.

A small graveside service and interment will be held in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery following the church celebration on Saturday.

Reverend Wallace Millsaps, Pastor of First Baptist Church in Jeanerette will conduct the services with assistance from Pastor Weldon Moak and Associate Pastor Adam Whitney of First Baptist Church of Broussard. Special music will be presented by Joe Garbarino (pianist) of Lafayette, Andrew Armond (pianist and grandson) of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Alice Porter (soloist) of Broussard.

Survivors include three daughters, Marsha Dufrene Armond and her husband, F.J. of Ruston, LA, Marilyn Dufrene Brantley and her husband, Al of Flora, MS and Candace Dufrene Friday and her husband, Gary of Katy, TX; two sisters, Doris Cooper of Brewton, AL and DeLois Bybee of Lindale, TX; three brothers, Fred Jordan, Don Jordan, and Kenneth Jordan all of Natchitoches, LA; seven grandchildren, Allison Armond, Chad Armond, Andrew Armond, Sonja Kelly, Will Brantley, Stacey Friday Hill, and Jaclyn Friday Turbeville; thirteen great grandchildren, Lily Armond, Anna Armond, Thomas Armond, Marie Armond, Charlotte Armond, Lucas Kelly, Claire Kelly, Camille Kelly, Sadie Macon Brantley, Collier Brantley, and Hardin Brantley, Joanna Hill, and Bailey Turbeville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Daniel Dufrene; her parents, T.L. Jordan and Ebber Waters Jordan; and four brothers, Charlie Jordan, Ray Jordan, Clifford Jordan, and Paul Jordan.

A resident of South Louisiana for most of her life, she was a Southern Baptist French missionary alongside her husband of 63 years. She had a heart for visiting the shut-ins, visiting nursing homes, and leading Bible study. Mrs. Dufrene also loved to cook for family and friends, travel, and arts and crafts. One of her nicest gifts was her passion for sending handwritten notes of encouragement and thanksgiving to many people during her life. She was a breast cancer survivor for over 50 years and was honored by Komen Acadiana as the oldest living survivor in the area. She will be missed very much by the many folks that she loved and ministered to. Her legacy will continue as impressions on the many lives that she touched.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law; Chad Armond, Andrew Armond, Will Brantley, Terry Kelly, Troy Hill, and Brien Turbeville. Honorary pallbearer is Lucas Kelly.
