The Life of Billy Joe McFarland

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at a 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in Martin & Castille''s La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette for Billy Joe McFarland, age 88, who died at 12:37 AM on Monday, July 21, 2014 at Cornerstone South Nursing Home.

Entombment will be in the Lafayette Memorial Park Peace Chapel Mausoleum.

Reverend Louis J. Richard, Pastor of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Abbeville, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Susan McFarland and Myra McFarland. Giftbearers will be his grandchildren. Karen Melancon, organist, will sing for the services, "Prayer of St. Francis", "Psalm 23", "Be Not Afraid". "The Lord''s Prayer" and "I Can Only Imagine".

Survivors include his wife of fifty nine years, Marguerite Webre McFarland of Lafayette; four sons, William Terry McFarland and his wife, Anne, Timothy McFarland and his wife, Pam, John Todd McFarland and his wife, Myra, and Joel James McFarland and his wife, Susan; ten grandchildren, Barrett McFarland, Tyler McFarland, Katie McFarland, Madeline McFarland, Megan McFarland, Erin McFarland, Ethan McFarland, Travis McFarland, Hilary Maurin and Michelle Maurin; one great grandchild, Trent McFarland; and a brother, John J. McFarland, Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Venice McFarland; his brothers, Donald McFarland and Roy McFarland; and a sister, Mozelle Hart.

Billy Joe McFarland was born on May 28, 1926 in Tree City, Louisiana and was a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana for 59 years. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II. Prior to his retirement, Mr. McFarland was employed for 40 years with Gulf Oil Company. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Mr. McFarland enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening and visiting with family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Terry McFarland, Tim McFarland, Todd McFarland, Joel McFarland, Barrett McFarland and Tyler McFarland.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s SOUTHSIDE location on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until time of the service.
