The Life of Rita (Hebert) Freeman

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014 at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, for Rita Broussard Freeman, 92, who passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at her residence in Lafayette.

Entombment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Reverend Chester Arceneaux, Rector of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lector will be John Maxie Broussard, Jr. Giftbearers will be Laura Mae Lueck and Karen Boutte. Karen Broussard, organist and soloist, will sing for the services.

Left to cherish her memories include her beloved husband of 47 years, James "Jim" Freeman; her stepdaughters, Terri Chancellor and her husband Fred and Gwen Scarborough and her husband Mike; her stepson, Jimmy Freeman; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren; her sister, Laura Mae Lueck; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dua and Laura Simon Broussard; her first husband, Otis Hebert; one sister, Nell Prejean; four brothers, Wilfred, Fred, Leonard Lee, and J. Maxie Broussard.

A resident of Lafayette all of her life, Rita had retired in 1986 having worked for BellSouth as a supervisor and then a clerk a total of 34 years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and gardening. She will be deeply missed.

Pallbearers will be Damian Freeman, Justin Scarborough, T.J. Scarborough, Lance Freeman, Johnny Broussard, and John Maxie Broussard, Jr.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Fred Chancellor, Mike Scarborough and Jimmy Freeman.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN location on Thursday, July 10, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Friday, from 8:00 AM until time of service.

A Rosary will be recited on Thursday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.

The Freeman family wishes to thank the caregivers, Carol, Melissa, Mindy and Francine for the compassionate care given to Rita in her time of need. Also a special thanks to Hospice Compassus.
