The Life of Myrna Loy Patrick

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1130 Johnson St., for Myrna Loy Enloe Patrick, 79, who passed away Friday, May 8, 2014, at 12:05 a.m. at Lafayette General Medical Center. A reception in the church Fellowship Hall will follow the service. The family will hold a private entombment earlier in the day at the Lafayette Memorial Park Mausoleum.
A native of Tishomingo, Oklahoma, Myrna lived in Lafayette for 48 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Sherman Enloe; mother, Lorene Vestal Davis; stepfather, James Wilson Davis; and husband, Edwin Daviess Patrick Jr. Survivors include her four daughters, Amy Patrick Gremillion, Sarah Patrick Hurder, Priscilla Patrick Kennedy, and Mary Patrick Walker; eight grandchildren, Rachel Gremillion, Julie Gremillion, Dan Hurder, Bill Hurder, Katie Hurder Harver, Bridget Kennedy, Sam Kennedy, and Sophie Walker; one brother, James Edward Enloe; and her cousin and best friend, Della Howard Barton.
Myrna graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso, where she was a Sun Princess and a member of Delta Gamma sorority. In her mid-30s, she returned to school and received her master’s degree in education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1972. Myrna was a tireless advocate of special education and was instrumental in implementing programs that made public education accessible to all children, regardless of their handicaps or perceived limitations. For more than 30 years, until her retirement at age 70, she worked in various aspects of education, including positions as an Education Program Manager for the La. State Dept. of Education and as an educational training consultant to local school districts. Myrna held several education certifications and was active in many professional education associations.
Myrna made lifelong friends during her teaching and administrative careers and in her roles as swim team parent, church member, community volunteer, neighbor, and bridge and mah jong player. Her family is eternally grateful to all of Myrna’s Lafayette support system, with special thanks to Ms. Annabelle Adams, Jimmy Gremillion, and Verbis and Elaine Sebastian. So many kind people stayed close to her, checked on her when we couldn’t be there, and now comfort us as we mourn her passing. The list is too long to print because Myrna made a new friend every time she walked outside, but you all know who you are.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Myrna’s memory be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1130 Johnson St., Lafayette, LA 70501.
Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Dr., Lafayette, LA is in charge of funeral arrangements.
