The Life of Richard L Hertzog

Richard L. Hertzog, 78, of Topton, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014 in The Lutheran Home at Topton, where he was a resident since March. He was the husband of Mae J. (Funk) Hertzog, they were married October 8, 1955.

Born in Topton, he was a son of the late Herbert E. and Elda M. (Guinther) Hertzog. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Topton. He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean War. Mr. Hertzog was the owner and operator of the former Hertzog Trucking in the early 1960's as a contract operator for Kreitz Motor Express, Hamburg, for many years. He then worked for Morris Kreitz and Sons, Wyomissing for more than 20 years. He then was the owner and operator of Hertzog's Hauling, Topton from 1985 until his retirement in 1997. Mr. Hertzog was a member of Kutztown, Topton, and Lyons fire companies; and a legionnaire member of Ray A. Master Post 217, American Legion, Topton. He loved spending time with his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years; Daughters, Wanda L. (Hertzog), wife of Terry K. Kemp, Boyertown, Brenda L. (Hertzog), wife of Scott K. Younger, Mertztown and Sherry L. (Hertzog), wife of Brian M. Sacks, Fleetwood; Sons, Terry L., husband of Bonnie L. (Hess) Hertzog, Downingtown, PA, and Barry L., husband of Donna L. (Rex) Hertzog, Mertztown. Other survivors include a Sister, Shirley L. (Hertzog), wife of George King, Hamburg; Brothers, Carl H. Hertzog, companion of Loretta Weiser, Topton, Dennis G. Hertzog, Kutztown, Noel P. husband of Patricia (Miller) Hertzog, Kutztown. There are 11 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. He was predeceased by Brothers, Donald Hertzog, Leon Hertzog, Warren Hertzog, and Wayne Hertzog.

Funeral Services are Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 11:30 AM from Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 25 East Weis Street, Topton. Interment, with military honors provided by Ray A Master Post 217, American Legion Honor Guard, Topton, will follow in Longswamp Union Cemetery, Mertztown. Friends may call Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 AM in the funeral home.

The family requests contributions to be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 37, Topton, PA 19562-0037. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.
