The Life of Vivienne Francis

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 10:00 am at The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette for Vivienne Mayfield Francis, 96, who passed away Friday, April 4, 2014 at Garden View Assisted Living in Lafayette.

Visitation will be observed on Monday, April 7, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home. 

A rosary will be recited by Brady LeBlanc on Monday, April 7, 2014 at 6:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.

Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park.

Reverend Chester Arceneaux, Pastor of The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, LA. will officiate. In honor of Mrs. Francis, her granddaughters will serve as gift bearers. Henry Phelps Francis, Jr. and Louis Rolfes, III will be the readers of the New and Old Testament. 

Vivienne was born Sunday, August 26, 1917 in Pharr, Texas.  She was a graduate of St. Agnes Academy in Houston, Texas.  She later moved to Lake Charles and then resided in Baton Rouge. She was an active parishioner of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. 

Mrs. Francis was involved in the Baton Rouge and Lake Charles Junior Leagues, President of the Calcasieu Parish School Board, Hospice Foundation of Baton Rouge, Deputy Secretary of Culture, Recreation and Tourism for the State of Louisiana, and the Director of International Special Olympics of Baton Rouge. 

She is survived by four daughters, Mary Linda Francis of Baton Rouge, Jeanette Francis Barras and her husband, Robert Barras of Lafayette, LA, Courtenay Francis Littlefield of Lafayette, LA and Vivienne ‘Blue’ Francis Rolfes Stanley and her husband, Dee Stanley of Lafayette; one son, Henry Phelps Francis Jr. and his wife, Renie of Tulsa, OK; nine grandchildren, Shannon Espie, Donald Littlefield, Jr., Leigh Barry, Claire Bingham, Robert Littlefield, Louis Rolfes, III, John Thomas Rolfes, Katherine Stanley, and Dr. Kelly Gurley; and thirteen great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Phelps Francis, Sr.; her parents, Thomas Shannon Mayfield and Denley Edwards Goss; one sister, Linda M Hillis and one son-in-law, Donald Littlefield, Sr. 

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and sons-in-law.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Vivienne''s name to the charity of one’s choice. 

Fountain Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery of Lafayette, 1010 Pandora St., (337) 981-7098 is in charge of arrangements.
