The Life of Franklin G Parker

FRANKLIN G. PARKER, Ph.D., 81, a senior research chemist for the DuPont Co., died Sept. 28 at Riddle Memorial Hospital, Media. Born in Pocatello, Ind., Dr. Parker was a graduate of the University of Wyoming and the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a pilot and navigator. After flying 50 missions over Germany in B-24s, he flew search and rescue missions in a PBM based in the Panama Canal Zone. As a senior research chemist, Dr. Parker worked out of the Chestnut Run Facility of the DuPont Co. in Wilmington, Del., for 30 years, specializing in textile fibre research and development, before his retirement in 1982. A longtime member of the Elam United Methodist Church, Dr. parker was also a life member of VFW Post 6835 in Bethel Township and a member and past president of the Concordville-Chadds Ford Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. Dr. Parker was also a member of the Media Area Retired Men’s Association, the Lutheran Men’s Club of Wilmington, Del., and the Grand Lodge of A.F. & A.M. of Wyoming. Survivors: Wife of 55 years, Kathleen Scott Parker, daughters, Kathleen Berry of Calabasas, Calif., and Margaret Cooke of Basking Ridge, N.J., son, Franklin G. Parker, Jr. of West Chester; sisters, Frances Brower of Dallas, Ore., and Marion Drown of Sacramento, Calif. Eight grandchildren. Service: 11 a.m. Monday, Elam United Methodist Church, 1073 Smithbridge Road, Glen Mills. Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial: Private. Contributions: Elam United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1073 Smithbridge Road, Glen Mills, PA 19342 Arrangements: Rigby Funeral Home, Chadds Ford.
