The Life of Virgil R Pate

VIRGIL R. PATE, 90, a longtime resident of Concord, died March 5 at Brinton Manor Nursing Home. Born in Mitchell County, N.C., Mr. Pate had lived in Concord since 1950. He operated a barbershop from his home on McComb Avenue in Concord for 45 years, and was a retiree of the General Motors Plant in Wilmington, Del., where he painted cars. He was the husband of the late Billie Lloyd Pate, and the father of the late Larry Page. He played guitar, and had his own country western band that played at numerous clubs and organizations in the Delaware Valley. He had radio shows while at Mars College in North Carolina, in the Army in Seattle, Wash., and at WCOJ Coatesville, Pa. after the war. Mr. Pate was a member and officer of the Moose Lodge for 35 years. Survivors: Brothers, Eston Pate and Dallas Pate, both of Green Mountain, N.C., Walter Wilson of Wilmington, Del.; Son, Garry Pate of Newark, Del. four grandchildren. Service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Rigby Funeral Home, Chadds Ford. Visitation: 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
