The Life of Horace J Neff

HORACE J. NEFF, 75, W. CHESTER RESIDENT

Horace J. Neff, 75, of West Chester, a former volunteer at the Chester County Historical Society and a 32d Degree Mason, died Friday at Tel Hai Nursing Home in Honey Brook.

Born in Ward, near Concordville, Delaware County, Mr. Neff attended Media High School.

He moved to West Chester in 1937 and took a job with the former Kauffman Furniture Co.

He later worked for Raub Plumbing Supply Co. of Lancaster until the mid- 1970s.

He and his wife, Dorothy Cleaver Neff, who preceded him in death, moved to Salem, Ore., where he was office manager for Familian North West Plumbing Supply.

After retiring in 1984, he moved back to Chester County and lived at Hershey's Mill.

Mr. Neff was an Army veteran of World War II. He was stationed for a time in Hawaii.

He volunteered with the Chester County Historical Society at its headquarters on High Street from 1985 until illness forced him to retire about three years ago. He guided tourists through the society's gallery, answering questions pertaining to the history of West Chester and Chester County, said his sister, Laura McCauley.

He was associated with Rajah Temple in Reading.

He also was a member of the East Goshen Fire Company and American Legion Post 134 in West Chester.

In addition to his sister, he is survived by a son, Dale J.

A memorial service was held yesterday at Founds Funeral Home in West Chester.

Burial was in Elam United Methodist Cemetery, Glen Mills.
