The Life of Cecil Ralph Benson



Cecil R. Benson, WWI vet, at 100  

Cecil R. Benson, 100, a resident of Churchman Village, Newark, formerly of Beach Haven Terrace, N J died there Monday.

Mr. Benson owned and operated a lumber yard in the Frankford section of Philadelphia for 34 years. He retired in 1961 and moved to Beach Haven Terrace.

He was an Army veteran of World War' I and received the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in France. He was a member of Beach Haven Terrace United Methodist Church.

His wife of 67 years, Eleonore C. Bie Benson, died in 1987. He is survived by two daughters, Josephine Manfredi of Chadds Ford, , Pa. and Eleanore Carver of New Castle, 'Maine; and three' grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.Services will be Friday at 11a.m. in Elam United Methodist Church, 1073 Smithbridge Road, Glen Mills, Pa. There will be no viewing. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Beach Haven Terrace United Methodist Church, Beach Haven Terrace, N.J.

Relatives and friends are Invited to attend his funeral service Friday ll am In the Elam United Methodist Church, 1073 Smithbridge Rd., Glen Mills, PA. Interment Elam Cemetery.

Awarded Purple Heart when he was severely wounded in Aisne-Marne, France. He was a 1st. Lt. in Infantry to Mch 1/18;Co C 12 MG Bn to Co D 12 MG Bn to 338 MG Bn to discharge. Served overseas from July18,1918 to June 4, 1919 and discharged on June 27, 1919.
