The Life of John Warren Davis Sr

J.W. Davis dies; retired machinist John W. Davis, 77, a retired machinist, stricken Tuesday at his home, died in Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Upland. A retired machinist he had been employed by the Sinclair Refining Co., now the BP Oil Corp., Trainer, for nearly 40 years, prior to his retirement in 1960. He was born and live din Bethel most of his life and at his late resident, Box 9 R.D. No. 1, on Naaman's Creek Road for the past 32 years. He served in the army during World War I overseas in Company A, the 56th Pioneer Infantry. He married the former Ermina Beatrice Bernard in 1924. He was a life member of Concord Lodge 625 F.&A.M., a life member and past commander of Brandywine Post No. 811 American Legion. Besides his wife he is survived by four sons, John W. Jr., of Newark, Del.; Charles W., of Upper Chichester; Dr. Harry B., of Bala Cynwyd; Franklin D., of Birmingham: five daughters, Mrs. Edward Benson, of Clarksville, W. Va.; Mrs. Lee L. Locke, of Upper Chichester; Mrs. John McAllister, of Honeybrook, Pa.; Mrs. Edward McDonald, of Concord; and Mrs. John L. King, Laurel, Md.; a sister Mrs. Ella Matinza (Please check that spelling), of Upper Chichester; two brothers, Charles A., of Beachhaven, N.J.; and George A., of Bethel Township: 23 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Robert Mooreland Funeral Home, 9th and Main Sts., Trainer. Burial will be in Elam United Methodist Church Cemetery. Calling hours will be after 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A masonic service will be held at 8 p.. Friday at the funeral home. Delaware County Daily Times - Thursday, May 3, 1973
