The Life of Paul E Bless

Paul E. Bless,72 of Bethel and formerly of Hagerstown, Md, died Sunday June 8, 1997 at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media. He was the husband of Emma G. Foust Bless, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage. Born in South Londonderry he was the son of the late Charles S. and Bertha Eshelman Bless. He lived in Bethel for 30 years having lived previously in Hagerstown, Md, for 20 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army, and received the Purple Heart for being wounded in action in the European Theater. He worked for Raleigh Products Company for the past 50 years, and the last 25 years part time as a salesman. He also worked for Watkins System Inc. as a repair parts truck driver for the last four years. He worked in the maintenance department at Garnet Valley High School for seven years. He was a member of Elam United Methodist Church for the past 25 years. He was a long time Sunday School teacher at the Otterbein United Bretheran Church of Waynesboro. When living in Hagerstown, he sas President of the Leitersburg, Md, Fire Co. and President of the Ruritan Service Club.He loved gardening and reading. In addition to his wife, he is survived by thee sons, Donald L. Foust of Hagerstown, Carl R. Bless of Cochranville, and David M. Bless of Oviedo, Fla; three daughters, Cheryl J. Dunford of Wilmington, DE, Deborah K. Milos of Dayton, Ohio, and Cathy D. Messinge of Aston; one brother Charles E. Bless of Chambersburg; one sister Mary Caufman of Chambersburg; 11 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Edward E. Bless, and one sister, Ruth Delores Bless. Funeral services will be held 1:30pm, Wednesday, June 11, at Elam United Methodist Church,1073 Smithbridge Rd., Glen Mills Friends may call Tuesday, June 10, vrom 7 to 9pm. and Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30pm at the church. Interment will be in the Elam Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Endowment Fund of Elam United Methodist Church, 1073 Smithbridge Rd., Glen Mills, PA. 19342. Arrangements are being handled by the Rigby Funeral Home, Chadds Ford, PA Not appearing in the obituary column is the following information of great importance: Paul E. Bless was a wounded soldier in the European Theater conflict and was awarded the WWII Vistory Medal ... The Purple Heart ... Good Conduct Medal ... 5 Bronze Service Stars ... and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.
