The Life of William F (Butch) Ryan

William F. "Butch" Ryan, 89, a legendary figure in the rich sports history of Aston Township, died August 30, 2013 in Fort Myers, FL, his home since 2009. Butch, a founding member of the Aston Athletic Association began his coaching career in the early 1950's. He coached Biddy Basketball teams to state championships and coached baseball title winners in the Co-Del Teener League and the Green Ridge Post 926 American Legion Team. Two years ago, the football field behind the Aston Community Center, on which the Aston A.A. teams play, was named Butch Ryan Field. Mr. Ryan was a decorated U.S. Navy Veteran who served during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post #926 Green Ridge. Butch was employed as a Pipefitter at the Sinclair/BP Refinery, retiring in 1980. He was husband of the late Louise J. Whitledge Ryan who died December 27, 2012, son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Egner Ryan and brother of the late Thomas, Hugh, Jackie and Anna. Survivors: daughter Nancy K. Sipple (Ray); son William F. "Bo" Ryan, Jr. (Kelly); grandchildren Kristy and Mike Henderson, Sondra Flynn, Lauren and Ryan Maher, Megan and Matt Kaiser, William F. "Will" Ryan (Emily), Matt Ryan, Brenna Ryan and Mairin Ryan, also ten great-grandchildren. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Friday at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 3551 Concord Rd., Aston Visitation: 5-9 PM Thursday and 9:30 to 10:30 AM Friday at the funeral home.
